A Prophet is not honoured in his own country.

A Prophet is not honoured in his own country.

A Prophet is not honoured in his own country.

A Prophet is not honoured in his own country.

A man is in general called a prophet when he preaches the message of kind and also the way to live. A prophet talks of living honestly and also not to do evil to others. He also has the unusual foresight to future problems and warns people of impending disasters. He also understands the problems of the society through his reasoning power and gives the ways to solve them. But mostly these solutions are not acceptable to the people. Due to ignorance, the people fail to recognize that worth of these prophets. Similar to prophets many great were also treated badly in their own land. For example the Greek philosopher Socrates taught the people to realize themselves. He also tried to teach reasoning to people and told them they should ask the question WHY to know the truth and never hurt others.

The political class in the country started thinking that he was spoiling the youth. So they convicted him by saying that he is corrupting the minds of the youth. He was sentenced to death and he was given poison to drink. He had a chance to escape from the prison. But he refused and drank the poison and died. Thus a great man like Socrates was not honoured in his own country when he was alive and today the whole world looks at him as a philosopher.  As is the king so are the subjects.

This proverb is equivalent to saying…

As is the thread so is the cloth.

A Prize Distribution Function :

A Prize Distribution Function

A Prize Distribution Function :

Prize distribution is one of the most important functions of a school. It is a memorable event in the history of the institution. It is held and marks the end of the academic year.

The prize distribution in our school was held in the first week of March. It was held in the school hall. The Director of Education was invited to preside over the function. The rooms were white washed and cleaned. The school compound was colorful with flower pots and banners. Maps, pictures and paintings were hung on the walls. Chairs were arranged for the visitors. The stage was beautifully decorated.

Prizes were arranged neatly on a separate table. The prize winners sat near the stage.

The Chief Guest arrived exactly at four. He was warmly received by the principal and other members of the staff at the gate. The school had played the national song. The scouts gave him a guard of honor. He was accompanied to the auditorium by the principal and members of the school committee.

The function started with a song. It was followed by a short drama. The principle read the annual report about the progress, examination results and extra-curricular activities of the school. The chief guest gave away the prizes. I also won a prize for standing first in my class. After that the chief guest delivered a short speech. He praised the school for it all-round progress and brought home to the student’s their duties and responsibilities.

The principal thanked the chief guest and the function came to an end amidst cheers

A Pleasure Ride In A Car :

A Pleasure Ride In A Car

A Pleasure Ride In A Car :

Riding a car is a pleasure. But riding an old car is an experience. My father’s old car is a good show-piece for an old curiosity shop. Its paint peeled off and its body seems to be plague ridden. Its doors are kept intact with wires. Ther is no windscreen. The bonnet has so many dents that it looks like the shield of a great warrior. Of course, it has fought many storms and rains. Rust coats its body. The springs of seats are raising their heads like the snakes from the snake charmer’s basket. It moves at will and stops at will.

I took out this car for taking part in a vintage rally. We started it by sweating our bodies. My friends pushed it up and done but it seemed to be doing nothing. I turned the handle but to no avail. After an hour we were about to give up the effort when it obliged us. Its whole body shook as if it has an epileptic fits. I pressed the accelerator and we all shouted like Galileo “O, it moves!” The uncomfortable seats did not dampen the spirit of my friends. They hummed tunes which were drowned in the rattling sound of the engine.

Suddenly it stopped. We pushed it, looked at it and felt disappointed. One of us slipped under the engine to check it up. As he toched something the mobile oil blackened his face and clothes. We could not recognize him. All the handkerchiefs could not remove that dark hue. He looked like a baboon peering atus. But the car started. One held the door which fell on the road.

The car moved smoothly. There was red signal. I applied the brakes. The car did not stop. “Oh God, brakes have failed!” people shouted at me. They absued me. But I was sitting helplessly at the steering wheel. It came to a halt after striking the red light on the opposite side. The traffic cop issued a chalan desite my apoliges.

By this time we had come a long way. My friends decided to proceed further forgetting about what had happened. They asked me to drive at a very slow speed. One of my friends sat on the bonnet waving a red handkerchief, it was an abrupt descent and we could not discover it. The car started moving at a speed. My friend lay on the bonnet which heaved up nd down. We held our breath. Everyone blamed the other. In front of us we saw the jammed traffic.

A man may bring a horse to water but he cannot make him drink.

A man may bring a horse to water but he cannot make him drink.

A healthy man is a successful man.

This French proverb explains the importance of health of a man. To be a successful man the most important thing is to be a healthy man. For a successful life, we should fix up certain goals and work towards achieving them. We need strength to work and reach the goals.

When a man is not healthy he will not be able to work hard and he will also not be able to concentrate properly. For proper concentration and hard work we should eat properly, exercise properly and sleep properly and maintain good health. There a similar proverb like HEALTH IS WEALTH which stresses the importance of good health.

So one should take more and adequate efforts to maintain good health, failing which the future will be bleak. More wealth with our health will not guarantee bright future. On the contrary, less wealth with good health will guarantee better and happy future.

A man may bring a horse to water but he cannot make him drink.

An opportunity presents itself in many ways and it is always up to the individual to make use of the opportunities to come up in life. This is the content of this proverb written by John Heywood. Whenever some body is thirsty we can offer water to that person but it is up to the person to drink that water and quench his thirst or not to drink the water and stay thirsty.

Throughout our life opportunities appear in many forms but most of the times we are very lazy to accept the opportunities. The saying fortune never knocks the same door twice is also a statement which indicates the importance of accepting the opportunities in the first instance. This proverb also says that when somebody needs help we can help them only up to some level but the person has to accept the help and make good use of it. The food of a hound is in its legs.

Hunting was one of the major sports in medieval times in Europe. A hound is dog which is bred and trained for hunting. Whenever there is a hunting expedition the hounds are taken to track and hunt animals like wolf, deer and rabbits. The hounds have to run faster behind these animals and catch them. Similarly the food we eat comes from the skills and the abilities we possess.

A log does not become a crocodile.

A log does not become a crocodile...

A log does not become a crocodile.

No matter how long a log stays in the water it doesn't become a crocodile.

In daily use this proverb is used to make the point that you can’t be something you’re not and thus stress the importance of just being yourself. This proverb from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) says… Wood may remain ten years in the water, but it will never become a crocodile. When you see a log floating in the river, you know it doesn’t belong there and that it got there by accident. It can stay in the river for a long time, but it will not become a fish or a crocodile. A log it was and a log it will remain.

Thus this proverb tries to say that we should be ourselves and not try to behave like others. There is a famous story of the cat in Tamil literature. One day the cat heard from somebody that he is a distant cousin of the tiger and so he went to the tiger saying he was his relative. The tiger on hearing this from the cat got angry and chased him away. The cat in this story did not understand that it is nothing more than a household cat and is in no way a match for the tiger.

Similarly there is another where the cat pretending to be the tiger took a hot iron and drew nine black lines on its body to imitate the tiger. Similarly we all try to be somebody whom we are not, sometimes we try to behave like our film heroes and sometimes like cricketers but we never try to behave as ourselves. This is always dangerous and it has been said by Ralph Waldo Emerson that Imitation is a suicide. No matter how hard it may get, a way out or eventual comfort will be provided. = After hardship comes relief. = Calm after Storm.

This Proverb is used to illustrate the point after many a hardship there will be eternal comfort for people. We should not always keep on worrying about our hardships. When these hardships are ceased we will have comfort in our life. This proverb is equivalent to the other proverb CALM AFTER STORM and AFTER HARDSHIP COMES RELIEF.

There is a story in Indian literature in which the King Harischandra took a vow never to speak a lie in his life. He went into various hardships because of this. He sold his wife and child into slavery and worked in the graveyard as an undertaker. Then finally the gods were all pleased with him and so they restored him to his kingdom and gave him back his wife and his child and lot of riches.

There is also a similar story of Nala and Damayanthi where the king undergoes a lot of hardships and finally he is blessed by the gods for maintaining his virtue.

In count Leo Tolstoy’s story the protagonist gets arrested for a murder and stealing money which he did not do. He pleads his ignorance and he is sentenced to jail. He lives in the jail and finally the real thief is caught and he is let off. He comes out and starts a new business and makes a lot of money and leads-a comfortable life. So in all these stories, we see that if we a live a life of virtue we can sail through all our difficulties and we will come out of it stronger.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

One of the most essential things in this world is knowledge and acquiring it is very important for proper living. But most people do not try to acquire knowledge. They pretend to know everything after knowing a little bit. These pretensions cause a lot of trouble not only to the person but also to people surrounding them. This is very well illustrated in Mahabharata where Arjun’s son Abimanyu enters the Chakra vyuga without knowing how to come out of it and this led to his death.

The Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar says when some one learns… he should learn it thoroughly and then stand by it. So a little knowledge causes danger not only to self but also to others. Persons who has a little knowledge and considers himself a master of the subjects and an efficient in his profession is considered to be a dangerous person. So a little knowledge not only causes danger to self but also to others.

We should strive with our best efforts to deepen our knowledge in the area of our interest. With very little and shallow knowledge, our journey will not complete. We will be caught in the problems of mediocrity.
Art is long. Life is short.

The word ART in this maxim means not just painting. It means all forms of artistic expressions like sculpture, literature and even scientific works. The meaning of this maxim is that human life is short whereas the artistic work produced by man is long lasting and even forms the identification of a society and a particular race of people.

Art achieved by these people is so vast and it does not have any limit and so a person who wants to achieve perfection should practice. A perfect art will survive the passing of time and it will be famous world wide. Leonardo Da-Vinci was a great artist and he made the famous paintings THE LAST SUPPER and THE MONA LISA. He was not only a painter but also an inventor. He invented the scissors and drew various diagrams for the Parachute, Glider, Battle Tank and Submarine. He is remembered world wide for his contributions to the society. Though Da Vinci has passed away his name still survives because of his artistic contributions to the society.

So, our works of art will speak volumes about us even after our death. Many luminaries who illuminated this world with their knowledge and artistic works are remembered for their brilliance after their death only because of their master pieces.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

A lawmaker should not be a lawbreaker.

A lawmaker should not be a lawbreaker.

A lawmaker should not be a lawbreaker.

Anticipation is the enemy of pleasure.

The proverb which has been used by Robert Lynd has said this statement to mean that if we expect or anticipate anything great, magnificent or splendid, we may have to be disappointed when we actually see that thing. We have seen many people in our life who have heavy expectations about certain things, but after they actually see or get it for themselves, they do not have the same enthusiasm for it and so they lose their interest in it.

Wordsworth was a very a great poet and once he had high anticipations about Yarrow. But when he actually saw it, he was greatly disappointed and said if that was yarrow of his imagination. Similar to this we see young people who are very interested to go abroad and so they try very hard to get it done. They have great dream about the distant land. But after going there they get dejected soon and would like to come back to homeland. This is mainly due to the reason they anticipate many things about the new country but see that it is not so real.

When we go to places and when we do things without any calculations and anticipation, we go about spontaneously. Such a simple approach, we could face the outcome in an open mind which will have the capacity to accept what is there as the best one. The spontaneity will enhance the beauty of the outcome and keep us open hearted and mentally strong.

A lawmaker should not be a lawbreaker.

This maxim advises that a person who constitutes the law for others to follow should be the first person in following it and obeying to it but he should not even try to alter to his needs and convenience or break or go beyond or against the law.

Law is the one which makes the man to behave sincerely. It makes the man to observe discipline and constrains him not indulge in vice activities. A person who observes and obeys the law is an honest person. The behaviors of a lawmaker should be appreciable and should set an example to others. The teacher who insists punctuality should be punctual in his every act.

The politicians who amend laws in the constitution often bend them to their convenience. They often try to take advantage by breaking the law. They indulge in self-motive activities and sometimes they go beyond the law and dodge even the court of law. Those who amend laws should first abide by them. Otherwise it would sow bad effect on the society.

A lawmaker should not be a lawbreaker.

A Journey By Air :

A Journey By Air

A Journey By Air :

I have been deeply moved on three occasions in my life. The first was when I stood on The top of a snowy peak in the Niligiris. My first sight of the sea was another occasion which moved me very deeply. But my first flight in the air was the most exciting experience in my life. I took A Journey By Air.

I was travelling form Chennai to Maldives by air. I entered the aeroplan in the morning. At first it was no better than getting into a car or bus. The noise of the machine made me feel that it was different. Soon the plan took off and rose in the air higher and higher. The buzzing sound which had fascinated me from ground now belonged to me. The things below looked so tiny.

The plane flew very fast rushing through the air without a bump or a jolt when all of a sudden bad weather overtook us. The plane began to swing from side to side and the pilot was a little troubled in controlling it. But I felt happy like a bird swigging in the air. Some of the passengers moved about and felt sick. Some slept in their seats but I sat still with great attentions. I took the greatest pleasure in looking at the scenery of the different places as we passed over.

After an hour’s flight we were told that we were passing over Indian Ocean which looked like a meadow from high in the air. It was a lovely sight. The sun was just setting. The ships below looked like toys which float in a tub of water. The blue sea on the right and left was simply enchanting.

We had our dinner at our seats and I was introduced to the members of the plane crew. There was the chief pilot who commanded the plane. Then there was a co-pilot, a navigator and three belonging to the plane. One of them was an engineer, another radio expert and the third radioman. There were also pursers and air hostesses to look after the passengers.

I do not know when I fell asleep. My father woke me up. It seemed to be a big dash through the air. I was very anxious to get a glimpse of main land. But when we were approaching the landing zone, strong winds overtook us. Fog blinded our views. I was badly disappointed. Our plane finally touched down at the airport from where we drove off to a hotel in the heart of city of Chicago. The whole flight had taken us nearly five hours. It was a very interesting and exciting one indeed.

The hound gets its food from its ability to run faster and hunt animals. Similar to this each one of us have a job and there is a skill set necessary to get that job done. Developing the necessary skill set and honing the skills to do our job properly gets us success. So this proverb tells us to look into our strengths and to fine tune them to be more successful in life.

A great city is the school for studying life.

A great city is the school for studying life.

A great city is the school for studying life.

This maxim tells us that a big city where one can see all goods and evils, beauties and charms at the same time, is the appropriate school for a person who can know a lot of information that surround him and learn all the aspects of life. A person, though he is ignorant, can come to know all virtues and vices by going through a big city.

A great city is the centre of commerce and industry. There live different types of people the rich and the poor, the rough and the gentle, the proud and the humble, the innocent and the deceitful and so on. There are multi-storied buildings on one side and slums on the other side. Moreover industrial civilization is developing in big cities nowadays. In big cities we can see beautiful bungalows, cinema halls, picnic spots, schools, colleges, five star hotels, hospitals, universities and etc. A big city represents each and every aspect of modem civilization. From these people one can learn art and music, literature and architecture too. In big cities, there are ample possibilities for employment and so. No one can be idle in a big city without a job. One can get a job suitable to his ability and taste and so and one can lead a pleasant life. In big cities there are well equipped schools from where one can get a high-class education of his interest.

In big cities we find doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessmen, philosophers, artistes and so forth. Also we find people who come from different states having different customs. As one has a chance to move with people having different culture, one shall be able to acquire a good and wide knowledge of life. A great city is such a school where one can learn all aspects of life.

It is evident that the life in a great city provides a scope for a person to study life in all aspects. It is said that home is the first and foremost school for a child. In the similar manner a man can learn the virtues and vices, the goods and the evils by knowing the things that surround him in a big city as it has various facets of life.

Meeting all sorts of people and doing odd jobs will enhance one’s capabilities and increase one’s chance of success. Moreover, living in a cosmopolitan city will give a sense of satisfaction which one can not get anywhere else.

A forest is in an acorn.

An acorn is a seed of a tree. An acorn gives rise to only one tree. But the tree gives many fruits and seeds which in turn gives rise to many more trees. So an acorn however small it may seem to be, it can grow into a huge forest.

Though the maxim conveys this meaning, what it actually means is that small things which seem trivial may sometimes be of utmost importance. When a small hole is made in a ship it sinks. Due to this reason whenever we do something we should pay attention to even small things and try to do it perfectly.

So we have to cultivate the habit of creating a forest with the help of a single seed which has the huge potential of becoming many trees if tendered properly.

THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAIL is another way of expressing the same idea.

The eye of a friend is a good mirror.

A mirror is something which shows us as we are. It shows us our good character and our faults as well. A friend is some one who not only helps in our difficult times, but also constantly helps us in knowing ourselves. Whenever we have some difficulties or some things about which we need some guidance we talk with our friends. So a friend knows our mind better than anybody else.

All roads lead to Rome.

This proverb means that all the different paths lead to the great city of Rome and this saying is from the great English poet Chaucer of 14th century. During the period after the Greek civilization and when Rome was founded as a city, the city slowly established itself as one of the leading military powers in that region and slowly an empire appeared at that point and this empire was called the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was the centre of all the civilization in that period and slowly it conquered a lot of countries in that region and at the height of its empire the Roman Empire spread from Germany in the east up to Spain and encompassed even a part of United Kingdom. So all the administrative decisions for this big kingdom originated from Rome and so it became the centre of the ancient world. Also the Roman civilization had a very good network of roads to travel to these provinces and generally they were all connected to the Rome the centre of the Roman Empire.

This is very similar to the situation where there are lots of rivers flowing on the landscape and wherever they originate from they always end into the sea. Also in religion though there are various religions and various forms of gods they all preach love and humanity. Similar to this whatever our way of life-style of life, we are all human beings and our endeavour should march towards the noble nature - eternity. A fool has many days.

The real meaning of the proverb is that the prudent person who looks like a fool to the unwise lives a long life. The moral of the proverb is that restraint, far from being foolishness, is in fact wisdom. It is a virtue that we need to cultivate in ourselves. The Tharaka people of Kenya live in the plains to the east of Mt. Kenya. The plains are a semiarid scrubland characterized by fragile sandy soils, low rainfall and scorching sun. The people practice subsistence farming and keep cattle, goals and sheep.

Due to the fragile soils, low rainfall levels and inappropriate farming techniques, farms yield little produce and the people are generally poor. Probably due to the harsh physical and economic conditions existing in the plains, Tharaka people tend to be short-tempered. Occasionally, little disagreements degenerate into nasty confrontations. In spite of these general observations, there are many Tharaka people who remain cool in the face of what observers consider to be provocation that requires retaliation.

Some of these observers may then ridicule the levelheaded person as a fool. In today’s world there is much intolerance. As a result we have witnessed crises and wars that could have been avoided. The spirit of understanding and forgiveness needs to be rekindled in our hearts, our families, our communities, our nations and among the peoples of the world. The moral of the proverb is that restraint, far from being foolishness, is in fact wisdom. It is a virtue that we need to cultivate in ourselves. The proverb, therefore, contains a precious message which we can and should pass around to create a more tolerant world - a world that values understanding and treasures peace - a world that shuns violence as a means of resolving conflicts and frowns on war as a way of redressing wrongs.

A Fool And His Money Are Soon Parted. :

A Fool And His Money Are Soon Parted.

A Fool And His Money Are Soon Parted. :

Money is an important thing in the world. It can earn us respect also. People resect the person who is wealthy and powerful while nobody pays attention to a beggar. There are wise men and foolish men in the world. Money is safe in the hands of a wise man. If he gets wealth, he spends it wisely. He invests the money in profitable ventures that will bring him more money. Once a wise man gets wealthy, he stays wealthy. But it is different with a fool. If a foolish man gets wealthy, somehow or other, he spends it extravagantly without investing it profitably. Soon he will have spent all his money. Instead of utilizing the money he unwisely spends it all. This proves that money will not remain with a fool for long. Even if he doesn’t spend too much, he is bound to make unwise investments which may make him lose his money.

A drowning man catches at a straw.

A drowning man catches at a straw.

A drowning man catches at a straw.

A drowning man catches at a straw.

The maxim indicates that in a desperate condition a man will try to do anything to save himself. He will try to use all the available resources at hand and try with full will to save himself. A cornered cat will fight back to save himself. Similarly a desperate man will try to do anything to save himself.

In our life should never consider any petty thing as meager and avoid it. It may be a great support on a crisis as a drowning man catches at a straw.

A drowning man is a very desperate man and will do anything to stay afloat and so when he sees a straw he tries to catch hold of it and save himself. He knows that the straw will not be able to support his weight and he cannot survive. So a desperate man is capable of any measures and he will do anything to save himself.

Once an ant fell into a pond. It was about to be drowned into the water and struggled for life. A kind hearted hunter dropped a leaf just beside the ant and the ant slowly jumped on the leaf and thus saved itself. Though it could not escape from the danger of drowning, it tackled the situation and took the support of the small leaf to save itself.

In the similar manner if a well-educated and highly talented person has no job of his status, without feeling frustration and disappointment, he must seek a small job to ease the critical situation and take a sigh of relief.
 Add fuel to fire.

The above maxim says that when fuel is added to fire, the fire glows brightly with flames. Some actions are like adding fuel to the fire creating a problem in an already problematic situation.

If a fire is lighted on for a destructive purpose it should be put out immediately. If it is not put out immediately and more fuel is added, the destruction increases and disaster is inevitable. We all know anger is a bad thing and it should be avoided. When a man gets angry he uses hard and irritating words and anger accelerates and so there are bad consequences. When a student is performing badly in studies he should be encouraged to do better. But instead if he is discouraged saying that he is not fit for studying he will not improve his performance and will also lose his confidence. This is the negative implication of this proverb and there is also a positive implication. It means when fuel is added fire in a lamp it keeps up the flame and helps us to dispel darkness.

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

The quality of friendship is stressed in this proverb. It means that a true friend is known at the time of crisis. A true friend is always ready to help even when he is not in a position to help. He is also ready to risk his life to help his friend.

In a story there were two friends Damian and Pythias. Damian was arrested for calling the king a tyrant and he was sentenced to death. But Damian wanted to meet his family in a distant place. So his friend Pythias agreed to take his place and undergo the death sentence in case Damian doesn’t turn up. But Damian turns up just before the sentence and keeps his word. This friendship between Damian and Pythias is the kind of friendship stressed here.

Essay:Unemployment

Essay:Unemployment

Unemployment means the joblessness of those who are able and willing to
work.Unemployment is a serious social problem. But it is not the problem of a
particular country, it is a world wide problem. The ratio of unemployment is
constantly increasing.

Economists have categorized the causes of unemployment as frictional , seasonal,
structural and cyclical.

Frictional unemployment arises when workers try to seek such
jobs as may fit their ability and taste .Friction in this case refers to the unsuitability
between the worker and the job available .A worker may give up his old
job and try to look for a new one .Sometimes ,it takes time to find a new suitable job. This type
of unemployment can be reduced somewhat by providing the workers with a
 variety of suitable jobs.

Seasonal unemployment occurs when industries have a slow season.Ours is an
agricultural country .In the crop season , new jobs are created .Particularly in cotton
season, cotton factories are run. Then workers are employed there. But when the cotton season
is over the factories are closed and workers are unemployed. Thus seasonal unemployment
occurs.

Structural unemployment arises from an imbalance between the kinds of
workers wanted and the kinds of workers available. The imbalances may be caused by lack of
skills, location, of personal likes and dislikes.New rapid developments are taking place in
technology. This necessitates new skilled workers in industries. Thus industries
are left without a job.Sometimes a plant in a declining  industry is closed .It throws
the workers out of work .Sometimes ,a plant is shifted to another place. The workers
who are unable or unwilling to move to the area are lift jobless.

Cyclical unemployment results from a general lack of demand for labour. When
the business cycle turns downward ,demand for goods and services drops; the workers are laid
off.

Unemployment is not a petty problem in its nature .It is a very grave problem. It
hinders the smooth running of a country. Therefore ,it should be tackled before
it paralyzes the whole structure of society. The following steps can be of
tremendous help in this regard.

First, the education system should be modified. The present system is
producing such educated men as are good for nothing. They are not skilled and technically
trained.Th make the situation even worse ,they expect decent jobs. They do not accept
menial jobs and, therefore remain unemployed .The government should
introduce such system of education as may produce skilled workers.IN this regard, vocational
and technical institutes should be opened.second , new industries should be set up to

Essay:A broken hand works but not a broken heart.

A broken hand works but not a broken heart.

A bird in the hand is worth two in a bush.

This English proverb implies that we should be content with what is definitely with us than risking it for the sake of something which is not with us. It also says that those who run after plausible promises and hopes leaving the opportunities in hand. Hence one should aim higher goals only after making the maximum use of the available opportunities.

A bird which has been caught and is in our hand is definitely more worth than two in the bush, because the two birds are free and not yet caught.

The story of the greedy dog is a good example of this proverb. In this story the dog has a bone in his mouth and walks over the river bridge and looks into the water where he sees a reflection of himself. He thinks that there is another dog with bone inside the river and jumps into the river and loses his bone in the process. So the bottom line is that we should not risk something which is already in our possession.

This story tells us that we should care for what is with us at the moment and should not run after the things thinking the false promises and hopes.
